Therapy & Counselling in Harrogate
One-to-one, couples, online or walk-and-talk sessions, led entirely by you.
What We Offer
Whatever brings you here, there's a way of working that fits.
One-To-One Therapy
A regular hour where the focus stays entirely on you, whatever's going on this week or over the longer term. You set the pace, and the therapist works to how you think rather than sticking to a script.
Couples Counselling
Two people, one room, and a third voice that isn't taking sides. It's a chance to say the thing you can't quite get out at home, and to properly hear what your partner's been trying to say too.
Online Sessions
The same care and confidentiality, from wherever suits you that day. Useful on weeks when getting into Harrogate isn't practical, without losing continuity with the same therapist.
Walk-And-Talk Therapy
Sessions held outdoors, moving rather than sitting still. Some things come out easier side by side than face to face, and the change of setting can loosen up a conversation that's been stuck.
Inside Mind Retreat
A sense of the space and the sessions, in and around Harrogate.
A Quiet Room, a Proper Hour, No Rush
Mind Retreat started with a simple idea: therapy works better when nobody feels rushed. The room is quiet, the chairs are comfortable, and the hour is yours to use however you need it, whether that means talking straight away or sitting with a silence first. Every therapist here is BACP-registered, and each has their own way of working, so sessions are matched to how you think rather than a fixed method. Some weeks that means sitting across from each other in Harrogate. Others it means walking side by side, when talking feels easier without the eye contact. Couples come here too, often after months of having the same argument at home, looking for a space where both people actually get heard. What's said in that room stays there.

Common Questions
How do I know which type of session is right for me? +
Most people start with a one-to-one and go from there. Say what you're hoping for when you get in touch and we'll point you towards the right fit. If you're not sure whether you'd prefer sitting in a room or talking while walking, that's a normal thing to be unsure about, and it can change from week to week anyway.
Is everything I say kept confidential? +
Yes. What's said in session stays with your therapist, with the usual legal exceptions around risk of serious harm, which any BACP-registered therapist explains clearly at the start. Couples sessions work the same way. Nothing said in the room gets carried back out or shared with one partner behind the other's back.
How often would I need to come, and for how long? +
That depends on what you're working through. Some people come weekly for a few months, others drop in less often over a longer stretch. There's no fixed programme, so you and your therapist decide together what feels right and change it as things shift.
Can we do walk-and-talk sessions if the weather's bad? +
If conditions aren't workable, the session can move indoors instead, so you won't lose the time. Worth mentioning any preference when booking so your therapist knows what to plan for.
What if my partner and I want couples counselling but only one of us has been before? +
That's fine, and quite common. The therapist takes time at the start to make sure both of you feel oriented and equally heard, rather than assuming any shared history.
